Off Limits (2022)
A multimedia project exploring challenges of authenticity in the face of social norms. An immigrant story will be told through live painting, music, and contemporary dance.
The music score includes compositions by Claude Debussy and Gaspar Casado, Johan Sebastian Bach, and Gilbert Mansour.

This work reflects on the healing impact of the performing art experience, taking inspiration from ancient ceremonial practice where musical rhythm and heartbeat connect with the breath.

Jan Paul Werge is a singer, composer, performance artist and mediator of music. Deeply inspired by the universality of music, he composes for contemporary dance and theater ensembles and has performed in Germany and abroad since age nine. He shares his broad and deep knowledge from over 30 years of professional experience on stage in selected workshops and retreats. As part of his research, he works in various collaborations at the interface between art and empathy. For this purpose, together with Johannes Härtl (Director of the renowned dance academy Iwanson), he has, for example, set up a laboratory in Munich, from which working tools result. Like the music we use by Jan Paul Werge.

FJK Season 2023 recap
FJK Dance had a successful program in New York City performing Season 2023 at New York Live Arts.
FJK Dance Season 2023 features the company’s signature work in cross-cultural dialogue. Fadi J Khoury, the Arab-American Artistic Director, brings his Middle Eastern heritage to the stage through choreography in a multimedia program combining contemporary dance and visual art; Breaking down stereotypes and expectations of gender roles and expression.

FJK Dance Untold
Visual art and contemporary dance intersect in a multimedia performance installation where ancient Middle Eastern aesthetics are reimagined for the present by layering contemporary ballet and ballroom movements with sculptures and graphic designs. Inspired by Arabic poetry, Al Mu’alaqat (المعلقات), a set of seven poems, is transformed into projections and theater sets. The designed Arabic written words dance and interconnect with the performers on stage. The music that inspired “UnTold” is from Hossam Ramzy’s album, “Egypt Unveiled”, a collaboration with Phil Thornton that mixes Middle Eastern music and instruments with jazz.

Tango on Point - 2017
Discovering connection, inspired by the dramatic movement of tango and its sensuality in partnering. Music by Astor Piazzolla played live by cello quartet X4 of MusicTalk, and by Sergei Rachmaninoff played live by classical pianist Jonathan Rondinelli. Costumes are created through a special collaboration with fashion designer (Herve Pierre) former creative Director at Carolina Herera.
